Healthy Snacks and what to Avoid

It is very important to reduce the number of times a day the acidic foods that cause decay are eaten.

What foods and drinks damage teeth?

Foods that are acidic, sticky and sweet can damage teeth.

These include:

  • Juice
  • Cordial
  • Flavored milk (Milo, NesQuick, Big M)
  • Ribena
  • Sports drinks
  • Soft drinks (including sugar free)
  • Sweetened cereals (Nutri- Grain, Coco pops, Cherios)
  • Jam
  • Nutella
  • Sweet biscuits
  • Cake
  • Lollies (including Sugarless and Natural Confectioners)

Encourage children to have fresh fruits and drink lots of water and milk. According to the Australian Institute of Sport, the best cereals to have are Weet- Bix and Vita-Brits.
